All our physicians accept patients who are currently pregnant without referral. Consultation for other diagnosis require a doctor referral. 

Dr. Hélène S. Weibel

Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Ile

Dr. Weibel is the chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the West Island Health and Social Services Center. She is passionate about medical education and is an assistant professor at McGill University's faculty of medicine. She also holds the position of course director for undergraduate medical education. Dr. Weibel practices general obstetrics and gynecology and is also a subspecialist in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. For the latter, she is affiliated with the MUHC Reproductive Center. Her areas of expertise include fertility treatment, in vitro fertilization, recurrent pregnancy loss, polycystic ovarian syndrome and minimally invasive gynecological surgery. Dr. Weibel speaks French, English and Spanish.

Dr. Atanas Nedelchev

Assistant Chief of Obstetrics

Dr. Nedelchev graduated from Medical University Plovdiv Bulgaria in 1997. He started his ObGyn training in Bulgaria and continued at McGill University. His residency in ObGyn was followed by High Risk Obstetrics fellowship at McGill University. His specific interests are the assessment and follow-up of high risk pregnancies, high risk deliveries, and advanced ultrasound. He works in close collaboration with McGill tertiary Obs centers – MUHC and JGH. He feels privileged to be serving as chief of Obstetrics at St. Mary’s. Dr. Nedelchev is also in charge of obstetrical ultrasound and quality improvement programs at St. Mary’s.

Dr. Lisa Merovitz

Assistant Chief of Gynecology

Dr Lisa Merovitz completed her undergraduate degree at McGill University and medical degree at Queen’s University. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology and a fellowship in Urogynecology/Pelvic Floor Reconstruction and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the University of Toronto. She moved back to Montreal for a position as an assistant professor at McGill University, Dept. OBGYN and as staff OBGYN at St. Mary’s Hospital. She is currently the associate chief of gynecology at St. Mary’s Hospital and the program director for the Pelvic Floor Medicine Fellowship at McGill University. She was the residency site coordinator from 2010-2015. Her current educational focus is the simulation curriculum for the department of OBGYN at McGill University.

Dr. Sonja Bodmer-Roy

Dr. Sonja Bodmer-Roy did her undergraduate studies in biology and socio-cultural anthropology at McGill University, then went on to do medical school at Université Laval in Québec City. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Université de Montréal, followed by a fellowship in Endometriosis, Pelvic Pain and Advanced Laparosocpic Surgery in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Bodmer-Roy loves her diverse practice, including following pregnancies, and helping women of all ages with a variety of gynecological problems, including the colposcopy clinic and, more specifically, working with women affected by endometriosis and pelvic pain. She regularly performs minimally invasive surgery for women with endometriosis, uterine fibroids and other gynecological pathologies.

Dr. Gabrielle Cassir

A native Montrealer, Dr. Gabrielle Cassir completed her medical school and residency training at Université de Montreal. During her studies, she was also able to experience the American healthcare system, spending some time at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She completed two years of subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, co-authored the National SOGC guidelines on “Pregnancy and Maternal Obesity” before returning to Montreal where
she became a staff physician in the Obstetrics and Gynecology division at St. Mary’s Hospital Center and an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Ian Comeau

Dr. Comeau graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2009. He completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at McGill, followed by a fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. He is an assistant professor at McGill University. He has a general obstetrics and gynecology practice based at St Mary’s Hospital as well as a pediatric and adolescent gynecology clinic at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. His areas of special interest include uterine fibroids, congenital uterine/mullerian anomalies and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Audrey Gilbert

Dr. Gilbert is a certified obstetrician-gynecologist who graduated in the speciality of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University and who completed a Master’s degree in Health Care Management at Université de Montréal. She enjoys practicing and teaching as an assistant professor and has a particular interest in general obstetrics and gynecology, colposcopy, abnormal uterine bleeding, and contraception. She has been co-chairing the MoreOb committee at St. Mary’s Hospital since 2016, a program aimed at delivering obstetrical care more safely. This has led her to develop a great interest in quality improvement and patient-centered care.

Dr. Isabelle Girard

Dr. Isabelle Girard has worked at St. Mary's since 1999. She was on the hospital board for 6 years, was director of Obstetrics, was in charge of teaching, and did various clinical research projects. She now works mainly in healthcare administration but keeps an obstetrical practice because she loves it so much!

Dr. Melinda Hall

Melinda Hall MDCM FRCSC is a certified obstetrician-gynecologist working at St Mary’s Hospital in Montreal. She graduated from McGill University in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005. This was followed by a 1-year fellowship in High Risk Clinics and Maternal Fetal Medicine from McGill University. She enjoys teaching residents, medical students, midwifery students and physician assistants. She has been the Clerkship site director at St Mary’s Hospital for medical students and is currently the St. Mary’s hospital site director for obstetrical and gynecology residents.
She is also committed to continuous quality improvement and teamwork. She has been the co-chair of the MoreOb committee, a program aimed at delivering obstetrical care more safely.

Dr. Louise Johnson

Dr. Louise Johnson is a native Montrealer who graduated from McGill University. After her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, she practiced at the Palo Alto Medical Clinic affiliated with Stanford University Hospital in California. She subsequently practiced in Boston for 10 years. It was upon her return to Montreal at St. Mary's Hospital that she discovered her formal interest in multidisciplinary teamwork and continuing education. Her primary practice and first love is in general Obstetrics.

Dr. Pira Korsieporn

After specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University, Dr. Pira Korsieporn completed a fellowship in Chronic Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis at the University of British Columbia. In addition to general obstetrics and gynecology, his interests include treatment of complex pelvic pain through medical and surgical therapies with a focus on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Dr. Maryse Larouche

Dr. Maryse Larouche is the academic director of the Division of Urogynecology, and assistant professor at McGill University. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from McGill University in 2009. This was followed by her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency at McGill, during which she received the Award for Excellence as a Resident Role Model. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Urogynecology / Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, as well as a Masters in Public Health degree at the University of California in Berkeley. Dr. Larouche practices as an obstetrician & gynecologist, and urogynecologist at St. Mary’s Hospital and also sees pregnancies and consultations at the ELNA Décarie Medical Clinic. Dr. Larouche leads urogynecology research at McGill and received the Clinician-Scientist Salary Award from the St. Mary’s Research Centre for 2019-2022. She is actively involved in academics through supervising trainees’ research, as well as the clinical teaching of students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Sonia Macfarlane

Dr. Sonia Macfarlane is an assistant professor (Obstetrics & Gynecology) and a Fellow in Medical Education in the McGill Faculty of Medicine. She completed her residency and fellowship training at McGill University, where she holds dual faculty positions as Electives Director, and Clinical Site-Director (St. Mary's Hospital) in Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). She has been the recipient of the McGill MSW Award for her dedication to medical student wellness and the clinical learning environment. Dr. Macfarlane practices general Obstetrics & Gynecology, and has a passion for natural childbirth techniques, cross-cultural medicine and refugee advocacy.  Her current research interests include cultural preferences of the childbirth experience and a review of the Canadian National Electives Policy.

Dr. Megan Schneiderman

Dr. Megan Schneiderman is an obstetrician-gynecologist at St. Mary's hospital and assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at McGill University. She completed her medical school and residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at McGill University. After residency, she completed the CARE (Contraception Advice Research and Education) Fellowship at Queen's University, where she gained additional expertise in the areas of complex contraception, family planning, gynecologic care for women with bleeding disorders, pediatric & adolescent gynecology, and adolescent pregnancy. In addition to her generalist Obstetrics & Gynecologic practice, she has a particular interest in caring for patients with complex contraception needs, with known inherited or acquired bleeding disorders, and adolescents with gynecologic concerns.

Dr. Jens-Erik Walter

Dr. Walter completed a urogynecology clinical and research fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in 2007. He is the committee chair of the Mesh Complications Writing Group within the Canadian Society for Pelvic Medicine (CSPM). He established the McGill Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012 and served as its program director for 8 years. He is a member of the Specialty Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the Scientific Committee of the American Urogynecologic Society. His clinical interests reside within the management of early-onset pelvic organ prolapse and mesh complications.
